The Trionium Denbies Dorking Skyline 10k

Denbies Vineyard, Dorking

Race information and tips

Take it easy in the first 1.5km - go all out in the last 1.5km.

Watch your feet!

This is the inaugural event - please bear with us!

I am still looking for marshals - all help gratefully received (please email me at rob@trionium.com)

If coming by car, please park at Friends Provident Social Club (there are 500 places - more than enough!).

ALL runners must pick up their running number from the Friends Provident Social Club - please note that this is a 10 minute walk from the race start itself. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the race start to collect your race number.

(The reason that it's like this is because there is a large fun run the same day, and we want to ensure that the 10k has its own facilities that are not swamped by the fun-runners). There are changing facilities at the Friends Provident Social Club.

There will be a rudimentary bag drop-off point at the race start (a tarpaulin). Don't leave anything valuable in your bag. Although there will be toilets at the race start, please try to use the toilets at the Friends Provident Social Club. DON'T urinate on the vines in the vineyard - that's a big No No!

The race starts at 10am sharp at Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking. (The 5k starts at 10.05, and the 2k fun run at 10.10).

The race is on a mix of surfaces, from concrete, to rough tracks, to tarmac, to grass, to rutted woodland trails and mud. Studs and spikes will not help you - trail shoes or normal running shoes will be perfectly good.

There is a road crossing at 2.5km/7.5km. Although this will be marshaled, you are responsible for crossing the road safely. If you need to wait to cross safely, then wait! It's just the luck of the draw: use it to get your breath back and to go faster on the other side of the road!

There is also a kissing gate just after the road. Kissing is not obligatory. Note that returning runners have priority at the kissing gate.

Tips: The first 1250m is all steeply up hill - take it a bit easy. The last 1250m is all steeply down hill - go for it!

I reckon that it takes about 10% longer to complete the course than a flat 10k.

Remember to look at the views - you will be able to see Box Hill, Dorking, Leith Hill, St Barnabas in Ranmoor, Westcott and - on a clear day - Gatwick and the South Downs.

You'll be running entirely on Upper Cretaceous Chalk (100-60 million years old).

If you want a time, show us your race number at the end of the race!

After the race you'll be able to collect your race medal and t-shirt (yes, with your name on the back). Please stick around for the prize-giving (1st, 2nd,3rd, first lady), which will take place at 11.10 at the race start (inside at Denbies if inclement).

You will be very welcome to visit Denbies shop, garden centre and restaurant after the race - the restaurant is very convivial. Please, no dirty shoes inside Denbies itself (we want to be invited back!).

The results and photos will be posted on the race web site, at http://www.Trionium.com/skyline.
