Starting just behind the vineyard, run up the conspicuous white concrete road and trend left on the track at its end. Continue contouring up on shaded tracks with excellent views of the vineyard and town of Dorking on your left, until you come to the end of the vineyard and you once again enter into a track surrounded by trees. Take the first sharp right, onto a rough and narrow track for 200m. At the end of the track, take a sharp left, and run along the left hand side of a rural road flanked by a wide margin, past the Church of St Barnabas in Ranmoor, and along to the road. Obeying the marshals, cross the road, and run through a gate onto steers field, for splendidly open views of Dorking, Westcott and the Leith Hill Massif. Keep trending right and, passing through a gate, run straight on into the woods (turning neither left nor right), keeping approximately level, along a long avenue of trees and on through the woods on the edge of the North Downs escarpment. Finally you will emerge at Picket's Hole - the half way point. Turn around and run back the way you came, keeping left at all times - returning runners have priority!
